Derartu lives with her family in a village in the Oromia region of Ethiopia. Although her parents work hard doing daily labor jobs, their meager earnings are not enough to meet the needs of their family of 6. Unable to find a more permanent job, Derartu's parents cannot afford to pay for school fees and materials, putting this bright girl's education at risk.
